Friends, I have something to tell you. And in honor of St. Patrick’s Day coming up this week, I decided to tell you with a limerick, so as to lessen the blow. Here goes.
There’s a girl who drinks tea and eats stories
she’s a sucker for good allegories
but she’s planning to take
a bit of a break
she’ll be back, all refreshed, please don’t worry.
It’s been about a year since I challenged myself to tell a story a week for a year. Sure, I missed a few weeks, and I have been slacking big time these past couple of months. But despite my few cheats, I’ve told a lot of stories, and met a lot of neat people along the way. I love doing this. That said, I’ve decided that this is a good time for me to take a little sabbatical.
Right now I am entering a season in my life that requires me to shift my focus in order to do things well. I need to devote a ton of time, energy, and attention to a few major projects that have come my way. I am a big advocate of doing a few things well as opposed to doing many things poorly. I hate the term multi-tasking, and I think it should be taken off of every job posting. While I used to pride myself in being a great multi-tasker, I now prefer to be a single-tasker, devoting my whole self to that which is in front of me, whether that be a person, a project, or a story.
The last thing I want to do is give you guys a blog that is burnt-out on the outside with half-baked stories on the inside (Agh, stupid metaphors! Now I really want double chocolate cookies). In order to ensure that this blog maintains its quality, I need to stop for a few months, take a breath, focus on the rest of my life, and return with fresh story-telling juices, and some new ideas.
So, I’m going to disappear for a little while, but not forever. I may check in from time to time, and I may even share a story if I just can’t help myself, but until I return, please keep in touch via Facebook and Twitter, and meet me back here in a few months, when the tides have calmed and we can continue sharing these moments together.
I will be back. I promise. I love this place.
Thank you for sticking with me, and Happy St. Patties Day! Cheers!
